In order to combine ingredients and obtain the nutrition analysis of those ingredients, the program must first convert all entered measures into a weight. All ingredients have the nutrition entered by weight.
Because the volume to weight ratio is not the same for all foods (1 cup of whipped cream has a different weight than 1 cup of water), in order for an ingredient to be entered in volume, there must be a specific weight added for the given food. For many of the ESHA ingredients, there has been a volume to weight conversion entered (to reflect specific weight of a given food).
For any ingredients you add to the database, in order to use the Ingredient as a volume (or any other non-weight unit of measure), one must add this relationship in the Measures page of the Ingredient.
- Open the Ingredient.
- On the left, click Yields/Measures.
- On the right, click Edit Measures...
- In the dialog that appears, click Add.
- Here, enter the information of volume to weight.
- OK out and Save the Ingredient.
After entering one volume to weight equivalent, when this Ingredient is later added to a Recipe, all of the volume measures will be available.
